Rivers State Chief Judge Addresses Legal Year Opening, Emphasizes Court Establishment Guidelines and Judicial Reforms
The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simone Chibuzor-Amadi has clarified that the number of cases arising from some local government Areas determine the establishment of a court in such local government and not a sole right for every local government to have courts.
Justice Chibuzor-Amadi in his address during the special court session at the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 legal year, revealed plans by the judiciary to establish new high court in Abua Odual and Bonny local government Areas to ensure speedy dispensation of justice.
The Chief Judge while highlighting some achievements of the judiciary within the last legal year including elevation of some officers to the bench, establishment of court in some local government and welfare of staff, pleaded with the state government to involve them in the building of infrastructures for the judiciary to avoid difficulty experienced in using some structures handed over to them.
Justice Chibuzor-Amadi also warned lawyers to ensure they file their cases within the jurisdiction where the cause of actions arose, threatening to start turning down cases brought to Port Harcourt jurisdiction from other cause of action.
The Chief Judge of Rivers State further used the medium to request that governor Siminalayi Fubara employ staff to cover up the vacancy within the judiciary, after insisting that the judiciary is under-staffed, following the appointment of new justices.
Earlier in his goodwill address, the state attorney Dagogo Israel-Iboroma, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, assured that the Department of Public Prosecution, DPP, under his watch will do everything under the law to end all acts of compromise in the system.
