Ijaw Youth Council Suspends National President Amid Crisis
The National Secretary of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Nangi Maonuye, has confirmed the suspension of the National President of the IYC, Jonathan Lokpobiri, following his involvement in a crisis that resulted in the deaths of some persons during the Eastern Zone elections.
Maonuye announced the suspension during a media briefing in Port Harcourt, citing Lokpobiri’s financial and administrative misconduct as additional reasons for the decision.
He also dismissed reports implicating other national executives from the Eastern Zone, including the Women Leader, Legal Adviser, and National Mobilizer, in the crisis that led to the fatalities in Abuloma.
Maonuye further called for the sack of the Minister of State for Petroleum, Heineken Lokpobiri, due to allegations of underperformance and his alleged involvement in issues affecting the IYC, stating that he and the national executive members from the Eastern Zone are open to investigation regarding the incident in Abuloma.
On his part, the National Legal Adviser of the IYC, Altraide Tonye-David, described the events that led to the controversy resulting in the deaths of innocent people in Abuloma, accusing the National President of high-handedness.
Today FM reports that, contrary to claims by one of the candidates for the Chairmanship of the IYC Eastern Zone, who stated that results were not announced during the last election, Maonuye and other national executive members from the zone insist that the election was concluded and winners declared.
