Police bust fake job syndicate in Rivers, arrest suspect
The Rivers State Police Command has rescued sixteen youths from a fake job syndicate and arrested a suspect.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, briefed newsmen at the Command Headquarters, explaining that operatives from the Octopus Strike Force acted on credible intelligence about a possible hostage situation in a compound in Igwuruta, Ikwerre local government area.
CP Disu revealed that the operatives swiftly moved into action, arresting a suspect, Chukwudi Okoli, who had posed as an employee of a company.
Preliminary investigations showed that the unsuspecting victims had each paid sums ranging from six hundred and fifty thousand naira to eight hundred and fifty thousand naira to the fraudulent company, which falsely promised them jobs in the oil and gas sector with payment in US dollars.
In a separate incident, CP Disu disclosed that the State Police Command had dismantled a five-man gang responsible for car snatching and burglary in various areas of Port Harcourt, including Ada-George, Iwofe Egbelu, Diobu, D-Line, GRA Phase 2, Borikiri, and Ogbogoro.
The gang had reportedly snatched over ten cars at gunpoint within the past three months, terrorizing residents who frequented the nightlife in the GRA Phase 2 axis.
Additionally, CP Disu recounted how operatives from the Abuloma Police Station, acting on credible intelligence, arrested a suspect, Prince Ogbonda, who had been seen moving suspiciously with a young girl.
