NANNM Issues Ultimatum to FG, Threatens Three-Day Warning Strike
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM has directed its executives across the country to mobilize its members in all tiers and proceed on a three-day warning strike, should the federal government fail to agree to its terms presented to the federal minister of health.
According to a notice by its Deputy General Secretary, Otaru Shaibu, the group had issued a 15-day ultimatum to the federal ministry of health which had scheduled a meeting for today, to address the demands of members.
Meanwhile; the Executive of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, South-South Zone has thrown its weight behind the 15-day ultimatum which expires on the 16th of September 2024.
The South-South zone during its meeting at NURSES House in Trans-Amadi Industrial layout, Port Harcourt, deliberated on several issues ranging from professional matters, labor concerns, insecurity, and socio-economic challenges.
In a communique signed by its Zonal Chairman, Imỏabasi Etuk and Secretary, JOE IDIEGE, the Zone-in-session urged the State Governments in the Zone to implement the twenty five per cent upward review of the 2023 CONHESS table for Nurses and the 2021 upward review of hazard allowances for Nurses and Midwives without further delay.
NANNM urged the BRÅCED (South-South) States to prioritize the security and welfare of Nurses, Midwives, and other health workers, especially in health institutions at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels and also implement the enhanced entry point for graduate Nurses as approved by the National Council on Establishment.
The Zone-in-session which also noted the severe shortage of Registered Nurses and Midwives in health facilities across the Zone, caused by lack of employment opportunities for qualified professionals in both public and private health institutions, recommended massive recruitment of Nurses and Midwives to meet global best practices.
The Zonal leadership further assured Nurses and Midwives of its commitment to safeguarding the best interests and welfare of members.
