Labour Party Chieftain Accuses APP of Rigging Local Government Elections in Rivers State
A Labour Party chieftain in Rivers State, Prince Favor-Reuben, has accused the Action Peoples Party (APP) of handpicking its candidates for the October 5th local government elections at the Rivers State Government House.
Favor-Reuben alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his Chief of Staff Eddison Ehie, and members of the Peoples Democratic Party are involved in this selection process.
Speaking during a media briefing in Port Harcourt, Reuben claimed that these actions amount to anti-party activities and undermine the PDP's criticism of the twenty seven lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress.
According to Reuben, APP bypassed the primaries conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and should be disqualified for violating the law.
Reuben also alleged that APP’s candidates, endorsed by the governor are PDP members who have not officially resigned from the party.
He called on RSIEC to uphold the law, urging its chairman, Retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli, to act impartially, disqualify APP's candidates and deliver a free, fair and credible election.
Meanwhile, the Action Peoples Party (APP) in Rivers State has refuted allegations made by a Labour Party chieftain, Prince Favor-Reuben, claiming that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is handpicking APP candidates for the upcoming October 5 local government elections.
The party’s state chairman, Sunny Wokekoro, in a statement dismissed Reuben's claims as "childish" and "misinformed."
Wokekoro, urged Reuben to focus on preparing for the elections instead of engaging in baseless accusations.
The APP chairman, stressed that Reuben has no locus standi to question the party’s internal affairs.
