Medical practitioner advise men against taking sex-enhancement drugs

As Nigerians celebrate Valentine’s Day, a Medical practitioner, Doctor Siene Oluwatosin-Orogun has advised men that before taking any sex-enhancement drugs, they should undergo a medical evaluation to identify any potential risks or contraindications based on their health history and current condition. 

Sex-enhancement drugs are taken by men to address the issue of erectile dysfunction, a health condition where a man is unable to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance.

It would interest you to know that on the 14th of February, 2023, a man was found dead in a hotel within the Ada-George area with sex enhancement drugs found in his hotel room.

Doctor Oluwatosin-Orogun who is a Public Health Physician, said healthcare providers should diagnose Erectile Dysfunction, identifying underlying causes that may require different treatments.

She noted that some drugs and treatments may be prescribed to delay ejaculation for individuals who experience premature ejaculation, significantly affecting sexual satisfaction for them and their partners.

The Public Health Physician also stated that in cases where low libido is as a result of hormonal imbalances or other treatable conditions, doctors may prescribe medications to help increase sex drive which she said is less common and typically involves a thorough medical evaluation.

Oluwatosin-Orogun said lifestyle changes, such as exercising, quitting smoking, reducing of alcohol consumption, and improving of diet can enhance sexual function and may be recommended before or in conjunction with medication.
