Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has mourned the death of the Group Executive Officer of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, son, and others in a helicopter crash in California near the Nevada border, USA.

Governor Fubara described the incident as a monumental disaster.

In a statement by the Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Boniface Onyedi, the Governor noted that Rivers State and the nation are in tears over the loss of one of the most outstanding African financial sector leaders and global figures.

Similarly, the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has joined in mourning Wigwe.

The Chairman of the seven-man Caretaker Committee of the APC, Tony Okocha in a statement on behalf of the party, described the news of the passing of Wigwe, his wife, and son as a rude shock and colossal losses to Rivers State, Nigeria, and the world at large.

Wigwe was from Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.  He died at the age of fifty-six.

In the meantime, United States authorities say preliminary reports suggest that a wintry weather condition was among the factors that contributed to the chopper crash that killed the Group Chief Executive Officer, Access Holdings Plc, Herbert Wigwe.

Speaking during a media briefing, a National Transportation Safety Board member, Michael Graham, said officials were on the scene to gather perishable evidence.

Graham said the team was “methodically and systematically reviewing all evidence” and considering all potential factors to determine the probable cause of the crash.

He added that although the information provided was only preliminary, witness reports suggested that a wintry weather condition was among the factors that contributed to the accident.
