Alleged Extortion of N6.5m by Police Officers: Victims Narrate Ordeals

One of the victims of the alleged extortion of six point five million naira by some Police Officers who were paraded by the Rivers State Police Command has narrated his ordeal in the hands of the officers.

Promise Patrick, in an interview with Today FM, said on the 31st of July, 2023, the Police officers took him and his friends from Ikiri junction in Omoku, the headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government area, to numerous places including Bayelsa and Delta states on gunpoint.

Patrick disclosed that the Police Officers who were six in number and heavily armed, double crossed them while he was driving.

He said at Delta State, the officers took two million naira from one of the victims and took four point five million naira from him.

Meanwhile, a Human Rights Advocate, Prince Wiro who is the National Coordinator of Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign who followed up the case, commended the Rivers State Police Command for the arrest of the officers, praying that justice must be done to serve as deterrent to others.
