Rivers State Government links Fire incident to storage of illegal petroleum products

Rivers state government says the fire incident behind the Fruit Garden Market in Port Harcourt city Local Government Area of the state on Saturday night may be linked to some combustive materials stored in the building.

The commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Doctor PETER MEDEE made the assertion when he visited the scene of the fire incident to ascertain the level of damage caused by the fire.

Medee said following the abandonment of the building by the owners, several things are now stored there which may have caused the fire.

The commissioner further warned against the storage of petroleum products in private homes that may lead to similar incident.

The commissioner also confirmed that no casualty was recorded during the incident.
