US judge temporarily blocks abortion in Texas

A US judge has temporarily blocked a new law in Texas that effectively bans women from having an abortion.

District Judge Robert Pitman granted a request by the Biden administration to prevent any enforcement of the law while its legality is being challenged.

The law, which stops women in Texas from terminating a pregnancy after six weeks, was drafted and approved by Republican politicians.

 Pitman, in a one hundred and thirteen pages opinion said from the moment the law came into effect on September 1, women have been unlawfully prevented from exercising control over their lives in ways that are protected by the Constitution.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, has praised the latest ruling calling it an important step.
