Head of Africa's health agency Doctor John Nkegasong has warned of vaccine hesitancy following the recent policy by UK refusing to accept covid-19 vaccination certificates from the continent.

According to him, the UK policy is confusing with far reaching implications, which many Africans are describing as discriminatory. Dr Nkegasong, who is also the head of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, said the policy will increase doubt in Africans with many questioning why the vaccine should be taken at all. He also wondered why the UK was sending vaccines to Africa but would not recognize those who have been inoculated.

Last week the UK government removed several countries from its red list where travellers would need to quarantine if they visited England, leaving those vaccinated outside the EU and the US to quarantine because the UK would not accept the certificates.
