The United Nation's children agency has expressed worry over the rapid spread of corona virus in Libya, with a two hundred and seventy per cent increase in cases in the west, four hundred and eighty per cent in the south and fifty per cent in the east of the country.

It also warns that the true number may be much higher than what has been recorded, due to acute shortage and lack of capacity to carry out tests.

Official data shows that Libya has two hundred and twenty thousand Covid-19 cases so far, with six thousand sixty one cases as the highest daily rate recorded since the beginning of the pandemic.

The highly infectious Delta coronavirus variant is suspected to be among the strains that are circulating in the country.
