The recent move by the Federal Government to share about twelve point three billion Naira among two point two million farmers in the country has been described as dead on arrival and only targeted at those in the good books of Political leaders.

A lecturer with the department of Crop and soil Sciences at the University of Port Harcourt, Victor Okereke made this known in an interview with Today FM.

Okereke who expressed concerns that the money will be hijacked and may never get to genuine farmers, said the twelve point three billion naira which when shared among the two million farmers will amount to about six thousand naira per farmer, may not make any significant impact.

Victor Okereke who called for proper profiling and disclosure of how the money will be distributed advised government to focus on funding agricultural research institutions and employing young graduates willing to go into agriculture.
