RSIEC seeks Police Support over Local Government elections in Rivers State

Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has solicited the cooperation and support of the State Police Command in providing adequate security for the forthcoming Local Government Elections in the state.

The Chairman of the RSIEC Retired Justice George Omereji made the plea when he led Members of the Commission on a Courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police. 

 

Addressing the Commissioner, Omereji, on behalf of his team welcomed the new Commissioner of Police and thanked him for improving security in the State since assumption of duty.  

 

Retired Justice Omereji noted that they were in the Command Headquarters to renew the Commission's partnership with the Police and to seek the cooperation and support just as he promised that the Commission will conduct a free, fair and credible election as well as provide a level playing field for all Political Parties. 

 

On his part, the Commissioner of Police, CP Eboka Friday who welcomed the team on behalf of the Officers and men of the Command, thanked them for the Visit, which according to the him could not have come at a better time. 

 

Consequently, the CP in a statement by the Command Spokesman, SP Nnamdi Omoni promised to deploy massively for the Elections and to ensure that the 23 Local Government Areas in the State are properly covered, maintaining that, 'he will emplace security across board and in strategic places, to ensure a seamless exercise.
