An appeals court in South Africa has reversed the conviction of Olympic athlete OSCAR PISTORIUS. The Paralympian has now been found guilty of murder, which overturns his earlier conviction for manslaughter over the killing of his girlfriend, REEVA STEENKAMP in February 2013. The Judge, Justice ERIC LEACH raised the conviction of the six-time Paralympic champion to murder after detailing the case and the reasons he cannot accept PISTORIUS’s earlier version of events.
A murder conviction carries a sentence minimum of fifteen years in jail in South Africa. Before today’s judgment, Pistorius spent barely twelve months behind bars in Pretoria before being transferred to house arrest at his uncle’s luxury home.
