Rivers State reports epidemic control of HIV/AIDS

Rivers State Government have said it is gradually achieving epidemic control of HIV/ AIDs in the state.

Doctor Ipalibo Harry-Banigo disclosed this in a statement from the Government House in Port Harcourt in commemoration of 2020 World AIDs Day Celebration.

 

Doctor Harry-Banigo said Governor Wike who she described as Epidemic Control Surge Champion for Rivers State has demonstrated great passion and commitment in the quest to mitigate the spread of the virus in the State.

 

The Deputy Governor in a statement by the Head of her press Unit, Owupele Benebo noted that Wike was the first Governor in the Country to abolish user fees for People Living with HIV/AIDS which he she said made the patients to be doing very well and that issues of stigmatization of people living with HIV is reducing significantly.

 

Doctor Harry-Banigo added that the Strategy of community testing and identification of positive cases into the neighbouring treatment facilities which is described as Sexual Network Tracing (SNT) has yielded great dividends just as she urged citizens to take responsibility to remain healthy, stressing that the State Government has the political will and commitment to ensure the Rivers People enjoy quality health Care delivery.
