Peace accord signed in Edo ahead of governorship election

Major actors in the Governorship election in Edo state have signed a peace accord to ensure violence free campaigns and election this Saturday.

The Peace accord was coordinated by the National Peace Committee led by former Head of State, retired General Abdulsalami Abubakar in Benin.


Members of the peace committee including, Abdulsalami Abubakar, bishop Mathew Kuyah, INEC Chairman,  Mahmood Yakub, the Inspector-General of Police appealed to the politicians and parties to adopt the conduct for a peaceful electoral process.


The major parties in the election, PDP Candidate, Governor Godwin Obaseki and the APC Candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu pledged to lead by the peace accord.


The signing of the Peace Accord was witnessed by the European Union, election monitoring agencies, civil society organizations and the Oba of Benin.
