The Inspector General of Police, SOLOMON ARASE has ordered partial restriction of vehicular movement in Kogi State on Saturday, as political campaigns end today, ahead of the governorship election this weekend. The restriction order will take effect from 6AM on Saturday and last through 6PM the same day, to enable security operatives effectively monitor the conduct of the election. IGP ARASE said all ten states that share common boundaries with Kogi State will also experience heavy presence of security operatives during the election on Saturday.
The Police High Command said motorists and travellers plying the affected routes will be subjected to rigorous search by security agents on stop-and-search duty. According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, OLABISI KOLAWOLE, the IGP said the Nigeria Police Force is not unmindful of citizens’ right to freedom of movement. He said the measure is aimed at checkmating the antics of individuals or groups that may want to undermine the conduct of the election. The Police suggest that travellers may need to take advantage of alternate routes to their destinations where necessary within the hours of the partial restriction of movement on Saturday. Meanwhile; Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Operations, SOTONYE WAKAMA has been charged to coordinate security operations for the election in Kogi, with the assistance of three Commissioners of Police and three Assistant Commissioners of Police.
