It appears that operators of lottery shops around the city of Port Harcourt are making fast business with the increasing number of people patronizing such outlets. There are also indications that the spread of lotto shops in the city may have provided a distraction for some young people who before now found pleasure engaging in social vices.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State has dismissed claims that its members plan to defect to the All Progressives Congress. The Assistant State Publicity Secretary of PDP, SAMUEL WONOSIKE came out with the position in reaction to comments by some APC chieftains a day before.

The Senate has asked the National Electricity Regulatory Commission to immediately enforce the abolition of fixed charges being collected from electricity consumers across the nation. The Upper Chamber of the National Assembly also urged the commission to investigate complaints by electricity consumers in line with provisions of the Power Reforms Act.

Youths from Ogoni extraction in Rivers State are clamoring to be carried along in the move by the Federal Government to commence the implementation of the UNEP Report on the clean-up of oil pollution in the area. An Ogoni youth leader, BORVE PAAGO said there was need for a representative of young people in the Governing Board that would oversee the implementation.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has concluded an investigation into alleged embezzlement of funds in the Police Service Commission and ordered the refund of over one hundred and thirty-three million naira to the Federal Treasury. The amount to be refunded includes unexpended and over invoiced funds out of three hundred and fifty million naira that was release to the Police Service Commission by the Federal Government to prepare police personnel and monitor their conduct during the 2015 general election.
