The Rivers State Police Command says the directive to local government councils to disband traffic monitoring taskforces still stands.

The Commissioner of Police, CHRIS EZIKE renewed the directive in an interview with correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR.

Justice MUAZU PINDIGA of the Rivers state Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja will today rule on a motion filed by Governor NYESOM WIKE challenging the eligibility of the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives’ Congress, DAKUKU PETERSIDE to contest the 2015 Governorship election.

Governor WIKE through his Lawyer, EMMANUEL UKALA in his application said DAKUKU PETERSIDE failed to meet the requirement as specified in the Electoral Act 2010 as amended which states that a twenty one day notice be given to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

JUSTICE PINDGA had adjourned ruling till today after his ruling on Monday which dismissed an earlier application by the Governor challenging the Jurisdiction of the Tribunal.

The Labour Movement in Rivers State has called on the Police to ensure transparency in the discharge of their duties.

The call was particularly made against the backdrop of the crisis within the Rivers State chapter of the Nigeria Union Congress.

The Former National Assembly Member who represented Rivers East in the Nigerian Senate MAGNUS ABE has assured the people of Rivers state that the April 11 Governorship election in the state will be nullified and fresh election conducted.

Senator ABE spoke against the backdrop of the application of the PDP challenging the jurisdiction of the tribunal which was struck out by the Rivers state governorship tribunal sitting in Abuja.

Authorities of Asari-Toru Local government council in Rivers State have confirmed the abduction of the Head of Administration of the council, DAYSPRING PRINCEWILL.

The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the council, ODIARI PRINCEWILL said the senior council official was kidnapped on his way to work along Ogbakiri Road, while his driver was shot dead.
