The State commander of the NDLEA RACHEL SHELLENG stated this at a sensitisation exercise held in Port Harcourt in commemoration of the 2016 International Day for Drugs and illicit trafficking.
SHELLENG said over ninety percent of the crimes committed in the state are attributable to hard drugs, stressing that an intense fight against drug abuse will result in a drastic reduction in crime rate.
She noted that poor funding has been a major challenge facing the command and called on the state government and other corporate organizations to come to their aid.
The NDLEA Commander also disclosed that the command has made a seizure of over five hundred and sixty five kilograms of illicit drugs between January and May this year.
Correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA reports that the exercise was held in collaboration with the Rivers State Chapter of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria.
