The Rivers State representative on the NDDC Management Board, Chief Tony Okocha gave the directive during a meeting with all state contractors at the state office of the commission in Port Harcourt yesterday.
Okocha assured the contractors that he would address the issues of non-payment of contract funds, political instability and current economic challenges affecting the procurement of contract materials, but warned that there will be consequences for those careless about their jobs.
He disclosed that he inherited over nine hundred and fifty-two abandoned projects in Rivers State, blaming the inclusion of NDDC, an interventionist agency into the Treasury Single Account, TSA, and called on the Federal Government to address the challenge.
Some of the contractors who spoke to Today FM’s Uchendu Ejiowhor, commended the efforts of the Rivers State Representative on the NDDC board, but pleaded with the Federal Government to urgently intervene and take the NDDC off the TSA which they stated will enable the Commission to pay them in bulk to overcome issues of abandoned projects.
