A breakdown of the figure shows that the earnings cover legitimate remuneration of the federal legislators as approved by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
The remuneration packages include annual salaries, accommodation, vehicle maintenance and fuel, personal assistants, house maintenance, domestic staff, entertainment and utilities allowances.
There are also provisions for constituency allowance, annual leave and hardship allowance, in addition to wardrobe, newspapers and responsibility allowances.
The report published on the website of PR-Nigeria also indicates that each Senator has annual basis salary of two point zero two million naira, while each member of the House of Representative receives one point nine-eight million naira as annual basic salary.
However; the basic salary of the Senate President is thought to be two point four-eight million naira, while the Speaker of the House of Representatives received two point four-seven million naira as annual basis salary.
It may interest you to note that the calculations of the other allowances of the lawmakers are based on percentages of the annual basis salaries, including that accommodation which is derived from two hundred percent of the annual basic salary.
