NARTO Suspends Planned Nationwide Strike

This followed Monday’s meeting with the Federal Government and stakeholders after tanker drivers suspended operations and stopped lifting of petroleum products amid harsh economic realities.

NARTO members had threatened shutdown all over the country beginning Monday over the high cost of Automotive Gas Oil also known as diesel which is used to fuel their trucks for the movement of petroleum products across Nigeria.

In the meantime, the Petroleum Product Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria, PETROAN, says the long queues in filling stations across Rivers State might reduce, following the suspension of the strike by the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners, NARTO.

In an interview with Today Fm’s Ifunanya Obeme-Ndukwe, PETROAN’s state chairman, Francis Dimkpa, stated that the reason there is likely to be a decrease in lengthy lines in filling stations is because only two or three depots are currently selling petrol to petroleum marketers.

Dimkpa however said PETROAN will do all it can to ensure it supplies petrol to the people of the state.

The state PETROAN chairman further called on the Federal Government to prevail on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL to ensure adequate supply of petrol and other products to Rivers State in particular.
