Minimum wage: Labour suspends planned nationwide strike

The government and the Labour however shifted grounds in their positions on the implementation of the new wage after holding talks yesterday, and agreed to continue negotiations today, Wednesday in Abuja.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, CHRIS NGIGE, while speaking at the end of the meeting yesterday said the Federal Government cannot meet the demand of Labour in the new minimum wage regime, as the economy will grind to a halt if it accedes to Labour’s request.

The labour, which spoke through the deputy president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, AMAECHI ASUGUNIM, said negotiations were ongoing, and added that the meeting which had been adjourned to today and scheduled for 2pm will determine the fate of both parties.
