Man jailed 3 months for stealing mobile phone

An Area Court in Jos on Tuesday, sentenced one Yusuf Mohammed, to three months imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone valued at N110,000.

The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

The judge however gave the convict an option of fine of N 20.000 and asked him to pay a compensation of N 110,000 or spend six months in jail on default.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Ijuptil Daniel, told the court that the case was reported at the “C” Division Police Station, on Jan. 25, by one Mr Usman Suleiman, the complainant.

Daniel said that the complainant lent the convict his mobile phone to make a call, adding that rather than return the mobile phone, he absconded with the said mobile phone and all efforts to retrieve the phone proved abortive.

The prosecutor said during police investigation, the now convict confessed to have committed the offence.

He said the offence contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
