Life Pension:SERAP issues 14-day ultimatum to Abuja council Chair

SERAP in a letter to AMAC Chairman, ABDULLAHI CANDIDO said the bill for payment of life pensions to chairmen, vice-chairmen, speakers and other officials of AMAC was illegal.

In the letter signed by its Deputy Director, KOLAWOLE OLUWADARE, the advocacy group stressed that the payment of life pensions to the council’s ex-chairmen, vice-chairmen and speakers would cause massive financial crisis, adding that it will set a bad precedent among the seven hundred and seventy-four Local councils in Nigeria.

In the Bill before the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, past council chairmen would receive an annual pension of five hundred thousand naira, former vice chairmen were to receive three hundred thousand naira while former speakers would be paid two hundred thousand naira.
