Kogi Police Confirm Death of Retired Army Major After Abduction, Family Paid N10 Million Ransom

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of retired Army Major Joe Ajayi, who was abducted earlier this year. The police announced that Ajayi was killed by his abductors after his family paid a ransom of N10 million for his release.

Williams Ovye-Aya, the spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, disclosed this information on Monday in Lokoja. He stated that Ajayi was kidnapped from his residence in Odo-Ape, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, on May 21.

The police spokesman confirmed that the remains of the retired officer have been recovered and are currently deposited at the Kabba Specialist Hospital mortuary.

Ovye-Aya assured the public that the police are committed to investigating the case thoroughly. “We will leave no stone unturned in unravelling those behind this heinous act, arresting the culprits, and ensuring they face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of Kogi State and underscores the urgent need for intensified efforts to combat kidnapping and violence in the region.
