Kenya becomes first African country to receive new generic drug for HIV-AIDS treatment.

he new medication known as Dolutegravir of DTG, can improve and prolong the lives of people who suffer severe side effects and resistance to other treatments.

 

The Reuters news agency reports that DTG, which was first approved in the United States in 2013, is being given to twenty thousand patients in Kenya.

 

From Kenya, the drug will be rolled out in Nigeria and Uganda later this year, with the backing of global health initiative Unitaid.

 

One patient in Kenya, DOUGHTIEST OGUTU, who started taking the drug earlier this year, said her appetite has improved and her viral load has fallen from four hundred and fifty thousand to forty thousand.
