Ikwerre Youths,Police flag off Anti-cultism-kidnapping campaign.

The Commissioner of Police, ZAKI AHMED, made the pledge at the flag-off of anti-cultism and kidnapping campaign by the Ikwerre Youth Movement, IYM.

The Police Commissioner was represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, NNAMDI OMONI, at the IYM programme to mark the International Youth Day celebration.

OMONI, who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police, told the gathering at Rundele in Emohua that beheading and kidnapping are alien to Ikwerre people and must be tackled with seriousness.

The police spokesman said the command finds such incidents recorded at Omudioga, Elibrada, Elele and Rumuekpe, among other place as worrisome.

He said the Commissioner of Police was ready to provide the necessary support for the IYM campaign against cultism and kidnapping.

Speaking earlier, the IYM President General, AZUBIKE NWANJOKU, said the group would not rest until social justice is achieved and all forms of criminality are eliminated in Ikwerre communities.

Our correspondent reports that the high point of the IYM campaign was the award of scholarship to eight persons under the Rotimi Amaechi Scholarship Scheme.
