IAUE SUG Defends Acting Vice-Chancellor Against Criticisms

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education has defended the institution’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okey Onuchukwu, following recent public criticisms of his administration.

In a statement issued in Port Harcourt, SUG President, Alex Inyeaka Nnodim Onu, described allegations of institutional decline as misleading and unsubstantiated. He pointed to ongoing infrastructural developments at the university’s ‘New Heaven’ site and the maintenance of stable tuition fees despite prevailing national economic challenges as evidence of effective leadership.

Addressing security concerns, the union explained that collaboration with external security outfits is a proactive measure aimed at strengthening safety, rather than an indication of failure within the university’s internal security structure.

The SUG further noted that academic and administrative governance remains functional, with Deans, Heads of Departments, and academic staff continuing to perform their responsibilities effectively.

The student body urged stakeholders to disregard politically motivated narratives and instead pursue constructive dialogue to support the continued progress of the university.
