I-G tasks officers on diligence, fairness to general public

The Inspector General of Police (I-G), Kayode Egbetokun on Tuesday tasked police officers to be diligent and fair to the general public in the discharge of their duties.

These, he said, are achievable when officers uphold the highest standard of professionalism, integrity and service.

Egbetokun gave the charge during the commissioning of a newly built and donated multi million Naira Divisional Police Station by a Philanthropist, Dr Ibrahim Alih at Imane in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi

Represented by the Kogi Commissioner of Police, Mr Miller Dantawaye, the I-G said as officers serving in a community, they should be diligent, compassionate and fair in their judgments in dealing with the public.

He reminded them of their roles as law enforcers, who should by training also adopt a high level of maintenance culture.

“You must make sure you take good care of this newly built and donated division to us. We will be coming at frequent intervals to check your maintenance culture.

“We should remain steadfast in our commitment to the various communities in our watch as Officers in the principles of justice and fairness.

“We are well aware of the challenges that the NIgerian police force faces in keeping our communities safe especially from insecurity, violence and crime. Indeed the task is daunting.

“With the modern facilities, advanced equipment and dedicated team of officers that we have deployed to kickstart this Police Station, we are better equipped to tackle the security challenges of our time,” he said.

While thanking Dr Alih for his magnanimity in donating the police station to the force, the I-G urged other well meaning Nigerians to emulate him in assisting the police in keeping the peace in Nigeria.

Earlier in his welcome address, Dr Alih said that the police station represents more than just a physical structure to the people of the community.

He said: “This facility embodies the people’s shared commitment in fostering a secured environment where citizens can thrive.

“As we commission this headquarter today, we are not just opening doors to a building, we are opening avenues for enhanced security, improved response times and strengthened relationships between our communities and the Police.”
