HUMAN RIGHTS GROUPS CALL FOR INVESTIGATION OF RIVERS STATE REC OVER ALLEGED ELECTION MISCONDUCT

The group also demanded for an investigation of the election monitoring Assistant Inspector General of Police, the Commissioners of Police and other personnel that also took part in the just concluded elections in Rivers State.

The Project Coordinator of Homeland Awareness and Sensitization Initiative, Charles Inko-Taria who read out the position of the group, said the calls became necessary, following the alleged involvement and compromise of INEC and Police personnel in the last elections.

Inko-Taria, in a media briefing in Port Harcourt claimed that reports from monitoring teams and social media indicate that INEC officials and police personnel allegedly compromised in the electoral process and should be investigated and prosecuted where necessary.

The Project Coordinator of the group, while calling on INEC to suspend the issuance of Certificates of Return, disclosed that as a group, they are ready to appear before the election tribunal to testify the alleged irregularities experienced in the last general elections.
