A member of the House of Representatives, Iduma Igariwey, has called for the immediate cancellation of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), citing what he described as a “catastrophic institutional failure” that has severely compromised the integrity and fairness of the examination process.
Igariwey, who also serves as the leader of the South-East Caucus in the House, expressed his disapproval following recent revelations by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) regarding errors committed during the conduct of the 2025 UTME. He stated that the admission of such errors was not sufficient justification to continue with the entrance test as scheduled.
The lawmaker emphasized that the integrity of the entire examination process has been fundamentally compromised, raising concerns about the credibility of the results and the fairness of the admissions process for prospective students.
Calling for urgent action, Igariwey urged authorities to consider alternative measures to ensure a transparent and credible admissions process, emphasizing the need to restore public confidence in Nigeria’s tertiary education entrance examinations.
