Governor Caleb Mutfwang Blames Nigeria’s Insecurity on Elites, Calls for Community Policing in Plateau State

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has attributed Nigeria’s persistent insecurity to the actions and inactions of the country’s elite. Speaking at a stakeholder meeting themed ‘Dialogue on Community Policing as a Panacea for Insecurity in Nigeria: The Case of Plateau State,’ the governor emphasized that the elite have played a significant role in deepening communal divisions.

Mutfwang stated that the ongoing insecurity problem is not solely rooted at the community level but is largely sustained and amplified by influential figures in society. He urged the elite to acknowledge their responsibility in reversing this trend, noting that while the “poisoning of minds” often begins within communities, those with power and influence have the capacity to halt such narratives and foster unity.

The governor called for a collective effort towards implementing community policing strategies, highlighting that community involvement and the leadership of the elites are crucial to restoring peace and stability across Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
