Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s support for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), saying stronger collaboration will help tackle insecurity, pipeline vandalism, and illegal oil bunkering in the state.
Governor Fubara stated this on Thursday while receiving the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The governor explained that the state government’s decision to hand over its aircraft to the Nigerian Air Force was aimed at strengthening security operations and improving surveillance across the state.
He also noted that the ongoing upgrade of the runway at the NAF base in Port Harcourt is intended to enhance the operational capacity of the Air Force.
In his remarks, Air Marshal Aneke described Rivers State as a strategic location for Nigeria’s oil, gas, and maritime activities.
He urged the state government to adopt modern surveillance technologies, including drones, to help combat oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and other criminal activities.
