No fewer than four persons, including a soldier and three suspected bandits, were killed in a coordinated attack on Sabon Gari and Zurak communities in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State. Two soldiers involved in the operation have also been declared missing.
Military sources said troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) successfully thwarted the attack after receiving intelligence that armed bandits had mobilised about 200 motorcycles in preparation for an assault on Kampani community. Following the intelligence report, the troops were immediately placed on red alert to forestall the planned invasion.
The sources added that a gun battle ensued when the troops engaged the attackers, leading to casualties on both sides. Security forces are said to be conducting search and rescue operations in the area to locate the missing soldiers and restore calm in the affected communities.
