At least 153 people have lost their lives in the recent devastating floods that ravaged Mokwa Local Government Area a few days ago. The floods caused widespread destruction of homes and displaced thousands of residents.
The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) confirmed the rising death toll, which increased sharply from an initial figure of 115. The agency revealed that additional bodies were recovered late yesterday beneath a bridge in Mokwa and were subsequently buried.
Ibrahim Hussaini, Acting Director General of NSEMA, stated that rescue and recovery efforts are ongoing, and the full extent of the disaster continues to be assessed. The floods have left many residents homeless and in urgent need of humanitarian assistance as authorities work to provide relief and support to affected communities.
