Finidi George Plans to Strengthen Rivers United with Experienced Signings for CAF Champions League

Rivers United head coach and former Super Eagles winger, Finidi George, has revealed plans to bolster his squad with seasoned players ahead of the CAF Champions League campaign.

In an interview with Rivers United’s media, Finidi announced that the club intends to recruit six experienced players to enhance their chances of success in the continental competition. He emphasized that the new signings would not only be about numbers but would include trusted players with proven experience in African tournaments.

Finidi reflected on the lessons learned from his former team, Enyimba, highlighting their struggles against Wydad Casablanca due to inexperience. “Four, five or six additions isn’t bad for a group like this,” he said. “We won’t just bring in players; we will recruit trusted players with continental experience as well.”

He further explained the importance of experience in handling the pressures and atmosphere of African club competitions. “Some players couldn’t cope with the noise and atmosphere in Morocco against Wydad Casablanca. We need a couple of experienced players so we don’t struggle when we get to the continent,” Finidi stated.

The Rivers United coach emphasized the need for proper preparation, acknowledging the challenges of the CAF Champions League. “We know the competition will be tough. We have to prepare properly and get the right legs,” he added, signaling a strategic approach to Nigeria’s representation in Africa’s premier club tournament.
