The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo who ordered the probe, described the incident as a serious breach in the standard of care and dignity.
In a statement, the Special Adviser on Media to the minister, Babatunde Alao noted that the minister ordered for a probe following a disturbing video report on social media, alleging that inmates at the Custodial Centre were being subjected to inhumane treatment, including being served poorly cooked beans as breakfast.
While the statement said those responsible will be held accountable, it also warned that any lapses in the quality of food, sanitation, and welfare of inmates will not be tolerated.
It noted that findings of the investigation will be made public, and necessary disciplinary actions will be taken soon.
