The Frenchman’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires at the end of the season, but an increasing number of Gunners fans have been openly criticising their manager in recent months.
Tuesday night’s 5-1 defeat against Bayern Munich, contributing to a 10-2 thrashing on aggregate, prompted a wave of fan protests and demonstrations outside their stadium.
Speaking at yesterday’s press conference, Wenger told reporters that he would consider the fans opinions, but it will not be the most important factor.
In the meantime, Arsenal have issued a vote of confidence in Arsene Wenger, insisting that both club and manager will decide on his future together.
A statement issued by the club’s chairman, Sir Chips Keswick, reads:
“We respect that fans are entitled to their different individual opinions but we will always run this great football club with its best long-term interests at heart.
“Arsene has a contract until the end of the season. Any decisions will be made by us mutually and communicated at the right time in the right way.”
