The ex-governors claimed that many lives have been lost due to series of killings, robberies and other criminal activities in the zone.
The position of the ex-governors came as pressure continues to mount on South-West governors to cancel the regional security initiative following the Federal Government’s declaration that the outfit was illegal.
You will recall that following series of killings and kidnappings allegedly perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen last year, the South-West governors at a summit convened by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria in June agreed to set up Operation Amotekun which was inaugurated on the January 9 this year.
But the Attorney General of the Federation, ABUBAKAR MALAMI, early this week declared the outfit illegal, saying security could only be provided by the Federal Government.
