Pakistani Taliban leader Mullah Fazlullah has been killed in a U.S.-Afghan air strike in Afghanistan.
This comes after the U.S. military confirmed in Washington that it had carried out a strike aimed at a senior militant figure in the eastern Afghan province of Kunar, which is on the Pakistani border.
Reuters news agency reports that an official at the NATO-led Resolute Support mission in Afghanistan confirmed Fazlullah was killed on Thursday.
A senior Afghan Defence Ministry official quoted in the report said the killing of Fazlullah was likely to ease tension between the United States and Pakistan.
The United States says it will take firm and appropriate measures in response to Syrian government violations in a designated de-escalation zone, southwest of the country.
The US State Department gave this indication after President Bashar Al-Assad said his government would use military force against the rebel-held southwest, if political solution failed.

Former director of the American FBI, James Comey, has been indicted in a long-awaited report on the handling of the investigation of the emails of former Secretary of State and Democrats presidential candidate in the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton.
The report released by the US Department of Justice accuses found that Comey was insubordinate but not politically biased, as against Hillary Clinton’s claim that his handling of the email affair robbed her of victory against Donald Trump of the Republican Party.
Inspector General Michael Horowitz said Comey had broken dramatically from FBI and department norms in handling the Clinton’s emails inquiry, adding that he was also found to have used a private email account for FBI business.
In his response; FBI Director Christopher Wray said he accepted the report's findings but added that nothing in the report pointed towards political bias or impugned the FBI as an institution.
Campaigning ahead of elections in Turkey has been hit by violence, with four people killed and eight wounded in the southern part of the country.
Reports indicate that the incident has heightened tensions ahead of the vote on 24th June vote, in which President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is aiming for a second term.

The Secretary of the APC National Convention Planning Committee, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba says the ruling party has no plan to shift its convention from 23rd of June.
Senator Ndoma-Egba made the clarification against the backdrop of reports suggesting that the APC National Convention might be postponed due to paucity of funds for adequate preparations.
He dismissed the speculation and assured that preparation was in top gear for the convention, stressing that it would hold as scheduled.
Fifteen thousand security personnel would be on duty during the local government elections in Rivers State tomorrow.
The Rivers state Police Command has also announce a restriction of movement across the state during the period of the elections, from 7AM to 4PM.

Rivers State Chief Judge, Justice Adama Iyaye Lamikanra has inaugurated the Local Government Election Tribunal to handle petitions that may arise from the council elections.
The Tribunal is chaired by Chief Magistrates David Ihua-Maduenyi, with Amadi Nna and Mark Chuku as members.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has been asked to order the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to prosecute former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole.
The request was made in an exparte motion filed by one Bishop Osadolor Ochei, seeking to have the EFCC to prosecute Oshiomhole for alleged corruption while in office as Governor.
Ochie wants the EFCC to put the former Governor and frontline candidate for National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress on trial based on a petition that goes back to October, 2016.
The petitioner told the court that he had severally complained to the EFCC about allegations of corrupt practices against Oshiomhole without any response from the anti-graft agency.
He made reference to a mansion allegedly built by the former Governor while in office, which he claims is worth more than his legitimate income as Governor at the time.
The matter is before Justice Abdul Kafarati but no date has been fixed for hearing.
A charity organization run by the family of United States President, Donald Trump, is at the centre of a lawsuit filed by the State of New York.
New York's Attorney General Barbara Underwood said she was suing the Trump Foundation, as well as Donald Trump and his children, over alleged extensive and persistent law breaking.
Underwood said the charitable foundation had engaged in unlawful political co-ordination designed to influence the 2016 election.
The official alleged that Trump had illegally instructed the foundation to provide support to his presidential campaign by using its name and funds to promote the campaign.
The petition further claims that Trump used charitable assets to pay off legal obligations, to promote his businesses and to purchase personal items.
Underwood said the lawsuit seeks to dissolve the foundation, but the foundation has denied the charges, which it said were politically motivated.
President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged the commitment of the Federal Government to continue to deepen relationships with allies around the world.
President Buhari said the government’s commitment is particularly to countries that share mutually beneficial interest with Nigeria.
The President made the pledge when he received the outgoing ambassadors of Ethiopia and Turkey at the State House in Abuja.
Buhari said the core policies of the current administration, which focus of securing the country, fighting corruption, and reviving the economy, cannot be effectively done without good relationship with allies.
He observed that when a country is in good terms with its neighbours, it would spend less on security and invest more resources on infrastructural development.
