A retired Justice of the Supreme Court, Sir Pius Olayiwola Aderemi is dead.
The renowned jurist, who was once nominated by former president Goodluck Jonathan to chair the Independent and Corrupt Practices Commission died yesterday at a hospital in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to a statement by his son, Justice Aderemi died after a brief illness.
He was once a member of the National Judicial Council, the Body of Benchers of Nigeria, and a Papal Knight of Saint Gregory the Great.
About forty two positions will be up for grabs during the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress on Saturday.
A member of the Media Subcommittee of the National Convention Committee, Abike Dabiri-Erewa who confirmed the development said no fewer than twenty candidates have been returned unopposed as members of the National Working Committee of the APC.
Arewa Dabiri also disclosed that screening has also been done adding that some candidates have been disqualified from the exercise.
She said some were disqualified on the basis of age and educational qualification.
The Presidential Adviser of Diaspora further assured that the convention will be free and fair.
The Federal Government says it will shut down the land border between Nigeria and a neighbouring country to avoid smuggling of foreign rice into the country.
The Federal government disclosed that the action will be taken in few days.
Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbe made the disclosure while speaking with selected youths in Abuja.
Chief Ogbeh said shutting the borders had become necessary to encourage local production and sustain the economy of the country.
The Minister who did not mention the affected country, said states like Anambra, Ebonyi, Kebbi, Kano, and Jigawa were doing well in rice production.
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP has sued the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola over his claimed failure to account for the spending on the privatisation of the electricity sector.
SERAP also wants to know the exact amount of post-privatisation spending on generation companies, distribution companies, DISCOS and Transmission Company of Nigeria to date.
SERAP in a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos wants Fashola to explain if such spending came from budgetary allocations or other sources.

The APC said the low turn-out of electorates for the Local Government polls does not only indicate that Rivers people have rejected what they described as a sham election, but have also rejected the People’s Democratic Party in the state.

One Bobo-Justice Akaniwo is being investigated by officers at the Kala Police Division in Mile four Area of Port Harcourt for alleged rape of a thirteen year old girl.
Akaniwo is alleged to have committed the act around Oroazi community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State over the weekend.
Our correspondent gathered that three police personal and two relatives of the thirteen year old victim who went for the arrest were restricted by youths from Oroazi community who insisted that the suspect should not be taken away.
Elder brother to the thirteen year old girl, Prince Wiro who spoke to our correspondent on the development expressed fear that the suspect may be granted bail.
Youths from Akpor Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local government area of Rivers state yesterday stormed the Rivers state-owned syringe factory at Rumuosi, along East-West road to stop what they say is the looting of the factory.
The youths who said they acted based on information accosted a truck fully loaded with property from the factory.
A youth leader in Rumuosi, Goodnews Amadi who alerted the police on the incident at Syringe factory, said the facility is being looted by those who run the moribund factory.
On his part, the Community Development Committee Chairman of Rumuokwachi Community, Anya Amadi said host communities of the Syringe factory including, Rumuosi, Ozuoba, Rumuokwachi and Alakahia will ensure that those involved in the looting of the factory will face the Law.

A group under the aegis of the Niger-Delta Activist Forum have threatened to shut down facilities owned by the Nigerian Agip Oil Company over what they say is negligence on the part of the company.
The group at media briefing in Port Harcourt said what they termed Operation Zero Barrel oil for Agip, will commence from Wednesday this week because of the company’s failure to meet its obligations to host communities.
Convener of the group, Success Jack who spoke with newsmen said all efforts to reach-out to the management of the Nigeria Agip Oil Company for amicable resolution have failed.
Jack however drew the attention of all relevant agencies to the decision of the group.
You will recall that members of host communities of Nigeria Agip Company especially in Bayelsa and Delta states issued a fourteen day ultimatum to the multinational company which elapses this week.
