Floods are 'acts of God,' but flood losses are largely acts of man. Rainfall intensity is high in Rivers state due to climatic changes such as high rainfall volume and duration. The result of our study shows that the risk of the occurrence of potentially damaging floods in Port Harcourt increases with increasing rainfall intensity. Also, the risk of flood is bound to increase in the future with increasing urbanization hence the need to demarcate the flooded areas for effective flood mitigation, an idea that has remained in the papers for decades.


Police arrest notorious car snatcher

Rivers State Police Command, Octopus Strike Force, says it has arrested one Nnali Osita alleged to be a member of a notorious Car Snatching Syndicate specialized in robbing Bolt-Uber Drivers in the State.
