VIOLENCE MARS TURKEY ELECTION CAMPAIGN

Friday, 15 June 2018 16:06

Campaigning ahead of elections in Turkey has been hit by violence, with four people killed and eight wounded in the southern part of the country.

Reports indicate that the incident has heightened tensions ahead of the vote on 24th June vote, in which President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is aiming for a second term.

The clash broke out in the mainly Kurdish town of Suruc, when a parliamentarian from the ruling AKP, Ibrahim Halil Yildiz, was touring some shops.

However; pro-government and pro-Kurdish accounts of the incident are significantly different, with reports that Kurdish militant shopkeepers attacked the MP's entourage, with his brother among the dead.
