What began as a peaceful procession reportedly turned into a rowdy demonstration as the security operatives fired teargas.
The demonstrators gathered at the plaza to place coffins they made in remembrance of those whose lives were lost before police fired teargas canisters.
The protesters who said their action is for a better welfare of citizens, urged the government to set up a peace and reconciliation committee.
In the meantime, the Lagos State Police Command said that participants of the EndSARS memorial arrested at Lekki tollgate have been released.
In an interview with journalists, the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin said the police only arrested a few troublemakers who were kept in their custody on the spot but were later released when normalcy returned.
He said that police were there to provide security and ensure that the procession went fine, and only reacted when some people tried to cause obstruction to the free flow of traffic.
