El-Rufai Accuses Federal Government of Empowering Bandits

A former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the Federal Government of adopting what he described as a “soft landing” approach toward bandits terrorising different parts of Nigeria.

El-Rufai alleged that the government has been paying bandits a monthly allowance and even sending food supplies to them under the guise of non-kinetic measures, a strategy he criticised as a “kiss-the-bandits policy.”

The former governor, who has consistently advocated for tougher military action against armed groups, said such policies only embolden criminals and worsen insecurity in the country.

He argued that without a decisive crackdown, the menace of banditry could further destabilise communities and undermine national security.
