The BBC quoted two charities reporting that almost six hundred children disappeared last year, with more than two hundred still missing.
The information is based on data supplied to the two charities by more than two hundred local authorities across the UK.
Following the development, ECPAT UK and Missing People wants the UK government and local authorities to reform the child protection system.
Meanwhile; the Department for Education said it had commissioned a specialist training for those caring for the children.
