Defense ministers from NATO countries are meeting in Brussels to review Russia’s military campaign in Syria. The move comes following accusations that Russia’s air strikes over the past week have targeted rebel fighters opposed to President BASHAR AL-ASSAD.
However; Russia which is an ally of President ASSAD maintains that it was after Islamic State militants. Ahead of the meeting; NATO Secretary-General JENS STOLTENBERG said the troubling escalation of Russian military activities in Syria will be discussed by the alliance.
He said NATO is concerned about Russia’s use of cruise missiles as well as air strikes, warning that the alliance is ready to defend all allies. Over the weekend, Turkey which is a NATO member, had accused Russia of violating its airspace.
